Emre James Vann Tezgel (born 19 September 2005) is a professional footballer who plays as a forward for EFL Championship club Stoke City.
He is Stoke City's youngest ever senior player, having debuted at 16 in January 2022. A former youth international for England at U16 and U17 levels, he has opted to play for Turkey internationally.
Club career
[edit]Tezgel made his professional debut for Stoke City on 9 January 2022 in a 2–0 FA Cup victory over Leyton Orient becoming Stoke's youngest player, aged 16.[2][3] On 29 June 2022, Tezgel signed as a scholar and also agreed to a three-year professional contract which took effect on his 17th birthday.[4][5] On 1 February 2024, Tezgel joined League Two side Milton Keynes Dons on loan for the remainder of the 2023–24 season.[6] Tezgel scored his first senior goal on 29 March 2024, in a 5–0 victory against Walsall.[7] He scored a further two goals as MK Dons missed out on automatic promotion finishing in 4th position and were well beaten by Crawley Town in the EFL League Two play-offs.[8]
He scored his first goal for Stoke on 13 August 2024 in a 2–0 EFL Cup victory against Carlisle United.[9]
International career
[edit]In June 2021 Tezgel scored a hat-trick for England under-16 against Northern Ireland.[10] In February 2024, Tezgel opted to play for Turkey and was called up to the Turkey U19s.[11]
Personal life
[edit]Tezgel is of Turkish descent through his father with roots in Aksaray.[12] He attended Painsley Catholic College.[13] His cousin Tash played for Stoke City Women.[13]
